Franco,Henrique Coutinho Junqueira; Pimenta,Maria Teresa Borges; Carvalho,João Luís Nunes; Magalhães,Paulo Sérgio Graziano; Rossell,Carlos Eduardo Vaz; Braunbeck,Oscar Antonio; Vitti,André Cesar; Kölln,Oriel Tiago; Rossi Neto,João.
Due to new possibilities for using sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) trash for electricity generation, and the production of 2nd generation ethanol and others chemicals, the interest for its recovery has increased. However, the question of how much trash can be removed from sugarcane field still needs to be clarified. This study evaluated the amount of dry matter, nutrients content, structural compounds and efficiency of the enzymatic hydrolysis of the hydrothermal pretreated materials for tops and dry leaves in samples from sugarcane varieties. Tops and dry leaves present differences in nutrients content and moisture. Therefore, the amount of trash to be collected should not be simply based on percentages, but also should take into account the different...

Bioethanol production from rice straw residues BJM
Belal,Elsayed B..
A rice straw -cellulose utilizing mold was isolated from rotted rice straw residues. The efficient rice straw degrading microorganism was identified as Trichoderma reesei. The results showed that different carbon sources in liquid culture such as rice straw, carboxymethyl cellulose, filter paper, sugar cane bagasse, cotton stalk and banana stalk induced T. reesei cellulase production whereas glucose or Potato Dextrose repressed the synthesis of cellulase. T. reesei cellulase was produced by the solid state culture on rice straw medium. The optimal pH and temperature for T. reesei cellulase production were 6 and 25 ºC, respectively. Rice straw exhibited different susceptibilities towards cellulase to their conversion to reducing sugars. The present study...

Valeriano,Ixthá Hasselmann; Marques,Gabriel Lessa Lisboa; Freitas,Suely Pereira; Couri,Sonia; Penha,Edmar das Mercês; Gonçalves,Márcia Monteiro Machado.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to produce bioethanol from enzymatic hydrolysates of cassava pulp, a by-product of cassava flour manufacturing, using an alcohol-tolerant Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain. First, the best operational condition of the starch hydrolysis process was determined through a complete factorial design (24), with triplicates at the central point. The independent variables evaluated were: the concentrations of α-amylase (Termamyl 2X) and glucoamylase (AMG 300L) and both liquefaction and saccharification times. The most favorable hydrolysis condition in the assay was achieved using 0.517 mL AMG.g starch-1 and 0.270 mL Termamyl.g starch-1, with liquefaction and saccharification times of 1 and 2 h, respectively. The broth obtained at...

Gómez Sampedro,Leidy Johanna; Zapata Montoya,José Edgar.
The angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibiting activity of bovine plasma hydrolyzates obtained by Alcalase 2.4 L at different degrees of hydrolysis (DH) was evaluated. For the evaluation of ACE inhibition (ACEI), Hippuryl-His-Leu was used as substrate and the amount of hippuric acid liberated by non-inhibiting ACE was determined by spectrophotometry at 228 nm. The results showed that the enzymatic hydrolysis increased the ACEI activity as compared with the un-hydrolyzed plasma. The highest activity was onbtained with a DH of 6.7%. The peptide fractions with the maximum activity were isolated using ultrafiltration membranes, ion exchange chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography on reverse phase (RP-HPLC). The fraction with highest...

Production of plant cell wall degrading enzymes by monoculture and co-culture of Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus terreus under SSF of banana peels BJM
Rehman,Shazia; Aslam,Hina; Ahmad,Aqeel; Khan,Shakeel Ahmed; Sohail,Muhammad.
Filamentous fungi are considered to be the most important group of microorganisms for the production of plant cell wall degrading enzymes (CWDE), in solid state fermentations. In this study, two fungal strains Aspergillus niger MS23 and Aspergillus terreus MS105 were screened for plant CWDE such as amylase, pectinase, xylanase and cellulases (β-glucosidase, endoglucanase and filterpaperase) using a novel substrate, Banana Peels (BP) for SSF process. This is the first study, to the best of our knowledge, to use BP as SSF substrate for plant CWDE production by co-culture of fungal strains. The titers of pectinase were significantly improved in co-culture compared to mono-culture. Furthermore, the enzyme preparations obtained from monoculture and co-culture...

Purification de la chitine par hydrolyse enzymatique à partir de coproduits de crevette Penaeus vannamei. Caractérisations des produits et optimisation du procédé ArchiMer
Le Roux, Karine.
The objective of this study was to optimize the extraction of chitin by acid proteolysis. The novelty of the method is based on the stabilization of pH by the balance between substrate composition and the acid solvent. This principle allows a simultaneous demineralization and deproteinization, the two main reactions associated with the purification of chitin. To evaluate the performance of this purification, the composition of the substrate and products was characterized. Different methods of quantification of chitin and proteins have been compared. As traditional assays were not satisfaying, a direct method of amino acids determination by gaz chromatography was selected to estimate the amount of protein. The estimate of chitin amount was based on indirect...

Recovery of valuable soluble compounds from washing waters generated during small fatty pelagic surimi processing by membrane processes ArchiMer
Dumay, Justine; Radier, Severine; Barnathan, Gilles; Berge, Jean-pascal; Jaouen, Pascal.
This work focuses on the treatment of washing waters coming from surimi manufacturing using ultrafiltration technology at a laboratory scale. Four membrane materials (poly-ether sulfone, polyacrilonytrile, poly vinylidene fluoride and regenerated cellulose) and 5 Molecular Weight Cut-Off (from 3 to 100 kDa) have been studied at bench laboratory scale using the pilot Rayflow (R) 100, commercialised by Rhodia Orelis. The investigation deals with the ability for membranes to offer a high retention of biochemical compounds (proteins and lipids). Results obtained during adsorption tests showed that the regenerated cellulose material seems to be the most appropriate with regards to pore size reduction due to the protein-adsorption. During the ultrafiltration of...

Valorization of the Macroalgae Sargassum Muticum by Enzymatic Hydrolysis, Interest of Surfactants to Improve the Extraction of Phlorotannins and Polysaccharides ArchiMer
Vandanjon, Laurent; Vallet, Laurent; Le Glatin, Titouan; Deleris, Paul; Baron, Regis; Bourseau, Patrick; Dumay, Justine.
The use of surfactants to improve enzymatic hydrolysis of the macroalgae Sargassum muticum has been investigated. Visible absorption spectroscopy has been used to quantify the solubilization of both polysaccharides and phlorotannins in the hydrolysates.   After total extraction, results showed that Sargassum muticum contained 2.74% (expressed in percent of the dry weight of the algae) of phlorotannins whose 32 % were in the cell wall. This result shows that it is important to access to the parietal phlorotannins. To reach this objective, we chose the enzymatic approach for destructurating the cell wall of the algae. The use of 5% dry weight (DW - 5% by weight of hydrolyzed algae) of an enzymatic mix containing a commercial beta-glucanase, a commercial...
